Funtwo
Guitarist
funtwo is an instrumental rock guitarist from South Korea who considers Aotearoa, New Zealand his second home. Now based back in Korea, he continues to explore a variety of musical projects both online and offline.
In 2006, a video titled “Canon” unexpectedly launched him into global fame. Originally uploaded to a Korean music site for feedback, it was later shared anonymously on YouTube under the username “guitar90.” The performance captivated millions and drew attention from major media outlets like *The New York Times* and CNN, establishing funtwo as one of YouTube’s earliest viral stars.
At the time, funtwo was just a computer science student at the University of Auckland who loved to play guitar. Inspired by guitar heroes like Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Dream Theater, and Nuno Bettencourt—as well as classical composers Vivaldi and Bach—funtwo developed a style that combines rock precision with classical sensibility.
His music is largely instrumental, allowing the guitar to speak where words fall short. Since 2006, he has released numerous original tracks, albums, and singles. His YouTube channel remains a hub for fans, featuring music videos, live performances, covers, and interviews with musicians from around the world.
Through his expressive playing and digital presence, funtwo continues to inspire guitarists and music lovers across the globe.
